Mploy are working with a leading SME in the UK plastics industry, specialising in high-quality plastic components and solutions for a wide range of sectors, including Electrical & Electronics, Rail, Aerospace & Defence and Automotive. Following recent company expansion to a three site Group, they are seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Manager.
Role Overview:
As the Quality Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and improving the company quality management system, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. In addition to quality management responsibilities, you will play a crucial role in overseeing health and safety procedures and ensuring a safe working environment. A key aspect of the role involves the ability to operate and interpret data from a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to support product quality verification. The role reports directly to the site Operations Director, and also the Group Chief Operating Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Management:
• Develop and maintain the company’s integrated management system (IMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 standards. Assist and help to implement and then maintain ISO 14001 standard
• Lead internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAPA) to address quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage and analyse quality performance data, including customer complaints, non-conformances, and process improvements.
• Conduct inspections and quality checks on products using a co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) if required and be able to manage sub-contract calibration and measurement services. Interpreting measurement data to ensure compliance with specifications
• Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality procedures and best practices.
Health & Safety Management:
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments and implementing control measures.
• Promote a culture of safety awareness across the business, providing guidance and training to staff.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
• Maintain health and safety documentation, ensuring it is up-to-date and compliant with legal requirements.
Continuous Improvement:
• Drive initiatives to improve product quality, reduce waste, and optimize manufacturing processes.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering, to implement lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
• Support new product development by ensuring quality requirements are met at all stages of production.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Proven experience in a Quality Management role within a manufacturing environment, ideally within the plastics industry.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and auditing processes.
• Experience with health and safety management, including risk assessments and compliance with UK regulations.
• Experience in using a co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) and interpreting measurement data to produce measurement reports
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and drive a quality-focused culture.
Relevant qualifications in Quality Management and/or Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, Six Sigma, etc.) are desirable.
